I keep finding that issue of The Week Junior face up in our living room and every time I turn it face down, lol. That one might go to the recycling bin sooner than later...
I love this. Obviously I'm not a journalist so I don't face the same challenges, but I stopped watching the news in 11/2016. I wish my husband would be ok with getting print newspapers but alas he cannot tolerate paper clutter. We also do The Week Jr and I also cannot get my daughter into it. I would have loved it as a kid I think. What we really need to do is throw out all the screens in our house--I am threatening to throw them in the river. I wish I could!
My son has started picking up The Week Jr, maybe he needed time to acclimate to it?? I agree I loved print magazines as a kid, do you remember American Girl mag?
Thank you thank you thank you for writing this piece. We are a journalist family too and can get too caught up in watching the news flow. Your guidelines - to only read the news and not people's reactions - is a worthy goal to follow.
I am glad to see nuanced takes like this, and very disappointed to see people who seem otherwise intelligent just saying "I'm giving up on news altogether" and then admitting they only watch TV opinion shows. What happened to reading our news? We used to do that too.
