#80, "Actually I think it might be Thursday"
Day 2 (4?) and we’re still all confused about what day it is. My phone tells me it’s Tuesday but honestly I don’t know if I believe it. We went out on a walk. Alice asked “Is this the first week or the second week?” I said “of what,” then remembered that Cambridge originally said school was closed for two weeks (it’s now officially three but…) and we haven’t really told them we don’t actually know when they will be back in school. I just said, “First week. It’s Tuesday.”
She goes, “No, it’s Wednesday. Actually I think it might be Thursday.”
The walk was a “leprechaun walk,” one of the items on the St. Patrick’s Day to-do list that Alice made. We were looking for signs of leprechauns, you see. I pointed out some green round-ish weeds and told the kids they were shamrocks and that they could make a wish. Normally they know that when you make a wish you have to keep it a secret but in this case I wondered if their wishes would give me a window into their mental states so I said “When you make a wish on a shamrock, you get to tell everyone what it is.”
Hugh: “I want to be Spiderman.”
Alice: “I wished that when I grow up, I would be an artist and live in a cottage in the woods by myself.”
So I won’t worry about her yet.
In the late afternoon I was suddenly very very tired. On top of everything else, Hugh is confused by daylight savings time. At 4:30 PM, he asked, “Is it morning?” and I automatically answered, “Yes.”
Alice: “If it’s morning, then we ate a really early lunch!”
